VR MOSQUE | Spirituality in the Heart of Modern Minimalism

01. Project Introduction

VR MOSQUE in Pristina represents a completely new and visionary approach to sacred architecture. Far from traditionally ornate forms, this public project has been developed on the principles of minimalism, geometric purity, and light as a primary mystical element.

The building functions not only as a prayer space, but as a meeting point and social integration hub for the surrounding community. Through the creation of an open, green plaza equipped with a children's play area, VR MOSQUE reclaims the historical role of the mosque as a center of public and urban life.

02. Technical Details

The main specifications that define the volume and context of this public building:

VR MOSQUE

  • Location: Pristina

  • Year: 2022

  • Area: 800 m²

  • Typology: Public

03. Design Characteristics and Symbolism

Within an area of 800 m², every architectural element is stripped of excessive decoration to make room for reflection and tranquility:

  • Monolithic Minaret: Conceived as a thin, pure, and monolithic tower with an open circle at its top symbolizing unity. A vertical strip of linear LED lighting along its edge serves as a visual beacon for the city at night.

  • Open Brick Facade (Modern Mashrabiya): The main cube of the mosque is clad with a delicate lattice of white bricks. This ingenious solution allows sunlight to filter into the prayer hall as soft rays during the day, while at night transforming the entire building into a "lantern" radiating light from within outward.

  • Public Plaza and Park: The integration of trees in the paved structure and a sand area with children's toys create an inclusive environment where nature, community life, and spirituality coexist in harmony.

04. Architectural Vision

"With VR MOSQUE, we wanted to challenge time. We have created a space where architecture does not shout, but remains silent to make room for spiritual peace. The whiteness of the brick and the simplicity of the lines invite every passerby to stop and reflect."

  1. Light as Architectural Material: The play of light and shadow created by the open facade changes at every hour of the day, keeping the interior space dynamic and vibrant.

  2. Pure Geometry: The cubic structure of the main building conveys stability, while the verticality of the minaret creates a symbolic connection between earth and sky.

  3. Inclusive Space: The project eliminates visual barriers, making the mosque easily accessible and welcoming to all age groups in the community.
