TORONTO AFFORDABLE HOUSING | Contemporary, Affordable and Full of Life
TORONTO AFFORDABLE HOUSING | Contemporary, Affordable and Full of Life
01. Competition Concept
This project represents our proposal for the international Toronto Affordable Housing Challenge. The main challenge was breaking the stigma surrounding "social or affordable housing," proving that reasonable cost can and should coexist with high-quality architecture, colorful design, and dignified public spaces.
Instead of monotonous and uniform blocks, we have proposed an urban ecosystem where architecture creates community, integrating housing with pedestrian walkways, green zones, and commercial environments on the ground floor.

03. Project Pillars and Urban Design
Our concept transforms housing into a comprehensive experience, where life shifts from the apartment interior toward shared spaces:
Dynamic and Colorful Facade: The use of modular panels with vibrant yellow and green accents breaks the large scale of the building, giving each section a visual identity and a sense of positive energy.
Lively Pedestrian Walkway (Plaza): The ground floor is entirely dedicated to public functions – cafes with open terraces, small shops, and mobile service points (kiosks). This creates a safe car-free environment, ideal for children and passersby.
Residential Comfort: Every apartment enjoys elegant balconies with glass protection and tall windows that ensure maximum natural lighting, a key element for well-being in high-density urban areas.
04. Architectural Vision
"Affordable housing should not just be 'a roof over one's head,' but a place residents are proud to call home. Through this Toronto project, we have shown that through colors, open spaces, and intelligent design, we can create a rich and vibrant urban environment for everyone."
Landscape Design: The integration of long wooden seating, linear floor lighting, and low vegetation with decorative trees that soften the concrete structure.
Social Interaction: Creating urban pockets and gathering spaces that encourage neighbor interactions and foster a strong sense of community.
Modularity: The structure is conceived on constructive systems that allow fast and efficient building, keeping realization costs under control without sacrificing aesthetics.
